The Main Line Quilters Guild Challenge for 2012 is about “Stars” and how they inspire us in poetry, song lyrics, and quilts.

 

Challenge Quilt Requirements:

1. The challenge quilt this year will feature the ‘Star’. Choose a quote or verse from a poem or song that you find inspiring and create a quilt top.

2. The word star does not have to be in the title of the poem or song you chose for the quilt’s inspiration. But the title, the author and the line(s) that you used for inspiration needs to be somewhere on the quilt, front or back.

3. There is no one required “same fabric” that we all use. You may use any fabric you desire. However, you do need to incorporate a polka dot/dotted fabric of choice somewhere on the quilt top.

4. On the front of your quilt, the use of metallic thread needs to be used as an embellishment.

5. The quilt may be pieced or appliquéd; use any method you prefer.

 

As always, should you choose to participate, finished quilts are due at the December Tea.

This is a reproduction of a quilt made by Salinda Rupp in Pennsylvania in the 1870′s.  There are 98 blocks; no two are alike.  It can be paper pieced or assembled in the traditional manner using templates.  Three members of MLQ are currently making blocks and two more have ordered the book.  Marty Laney first saw the quilt in Salt Lake City where she bought her book.

The weekend’s events include a Viewer’s Choice Quilt Show, sheep shearing, vintage quilt displays, spinning, wool dying, lace making, and a celebration of all the fibers used in the early 19th century. To encourage the public appreciation and participation in heritage crafts, the event has expanded in scope to reflect many fiber arts: embroidery, basket making, broom making, crocheting, felting, knitting and other fiber artisans all gathering and exchanging ideas and techniques.

The core of the event will be the 22nd Annual Quilt Show displayed in the Welcome Center. The quilt show is judged by ‘Viewer’s Choice’. It is casual show, a great way share your talent with others.
